A Cross to Bear, 2024. Performance, 45 min

Cuquita, The Cuban Doll, walks across Governors Island with a human-sized penis strapped to her back—a striking embodiment of the weight of patriarchy. This project confronted Romagoza's lifelong burdens, offering a profoundly cathartic release. With every step, she reflected on how male privilege has inscribed itself on her body, fractured her mental health, and shaped her existence, leaving both visible and invisible scars. By bringing these struggles into the open, the artist hopes to create a space where other women feel seen, heard, and validated—where our shared experiences become a source of collective strength and healing.
